Grow Your Own Hops

Perhaps one of the easiest ways to personalize your beers would be to grow your own hops. Pictured here is the first flower from my Neomexicana Lupulos “Multi-Head” plant. The Neomexicana hops plants are wild hops plants from Northern New Mexico and Southern Colorado (geographically close), are drought and heat resistant, and should be used for aromatic additions in beer.

Seems like a good match for me. I’m very excited to see how well the plant does this year. The total production for the second year (2018) was probably only a quarter ounce. I’m hoping it goes crazy from here on out.

The short of it, it’s fairly easy and if you’ve got the room go for it. Watch out for the caterpillars…
